Although the December 2019 opening of the Rally Cap Brewing Company tap room was ill-timed, the brewery successfully rallied through the pandemic and now it’s preparing to start serving its own food in early February at 11212 Pennywood Ave. in Baton Rouge.

The brewery had been hosting food trucks on weekends and Tuesday trivia nights. Owner Kevin Whalen recently told What Now New Orleans that his customers had been clamoring for food all week long. That demand spurred the decision to build and open an in-house kitchen at the brewery.

“When it comes to food trucks, there’s only so many of them to go around,” Whalen said. “We couldn’t always fill the slots we wanted, and we wanted to have food every day. So, if we get phone calls on Wednesdays or Thursdays asking about food, I look forward to telling people, ‘Yes.’”

Whalen said the cornerstone of the new kitchen will be a wood-fired pizza oven that will be used to make pizzas, calzones, and hot sandwiches. There will also be appetizers available and Whalen noted that the menu was developed with beer pairing in mind.

“Here at Rally Cap, we’ve got a pretty good variety of beer,” Whalen said. “So, we have plenty of pairings that we think can work well.”
