The new location at 18135 E Petroleum Dr. is just off the Highland Road thoroughfare and it used to be home to Maxwell’s Market, another local specialty market in Baton Rouge. According to reports, the new Chris’s location will depart from the current concept by offering cooked meals. It will also have a space for private events. The new location would make four total locations, including a Chris’s location in the Lakeview area of New Orleans.

Founded in Maurice in 1994, Chris’s Specialty Foods relocated to Baton Rouge and built a reputation for selling premium prepared Cajun foods. Fans of the retail market rave about its cornbread-stuffed chickens, boneless chicken stuffed with boudin and turducken rolls stuffed with dirty rice. Although you may not know it from the name of the market, Chris’s also sells tamales that people rave about.
