The Scotlandville area of Baton Rouge, which is located along the Mississippi River and near the  airport, will have another restaurant option with the opening of Trill Chicken at 8372 Scotland Ave. The building used to be home to a restaurant called Chicken Shack, and co-owner Danielle Payne Vernell recently told What Now New Orleans that the area has a real lack of food options. She added that Trill Chicken will offer some variety that was lost when Chicken Shack closed.

“We’re just trying to bring a little more food to the area,” she said. “They have a McDonald’s and a Jack in the Box, but I don’t know of too many other restaurants in that area.”

Payne Vernell said the Trill Chicken menu will feature all parts of the chicken — including breasts, wings, and legs — to make fried chicken, tenders, and chicken sandwiches. There will also be daily plate lunch specials. Sides will include french fries, fried okra and rice. Dessert options will include peach cobbler and pecan pie. A tentative opening date is set for December
