Very soon, Sucré fans living in Baton Rouge won’t have to make the trek to New Orleans for the dessert shop’s signature macarons and wildly popular king cakes, as a location is set to open in the capital city this fall. Co-owner James Vitrano recently told What Now New Orleans that expanding and elevating Sucré has been a part of his ownership team’s plan since they bought the company in April 2023.

“My wife, my partner, and I just really loved the offering and we wanted to expand it, maybe polish it a little bit,” he said. “We wanted to make it more of a luxury-type of offering that gives our customers an opportunity to escape reality with unique French-inspired desserts.”

“We definitely wanted to go to Baton Rouge, as the capital city with many great universities,” he added. “Baton Rouge also has its unique food scene that has helped launch many Louisiana brands.”

When the new location of the gourmet dessert shop opens in October, it will be located alongside Mansurs on the Boulevard, a fine dining spot known for serving Creole food on white linen tablecloths. Vitrano said the chance to open a Sucré location next to Mansurs was one he couldn’t pass up.

“The opportunity to be on Corporate Boulevard and next to what I would consider a culinary icon is a chance to really plant our flag in Baton Rouge,” he said.

Sucré currently has four locations in the Crescent City, one in Covington, and one in Georgia. The company has also announced plans to open two locations in Atlanta and one location in Houston by the end of the year. Vitrano said he wants to put more locations across Southern Louisiana, including more in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. However, he said, capital is currently very hard to come by and those expansions may have to wait.

“We’d love to fill in more areas in Southern Louisiana as we connect to Houston and Atlanta,” he said.
