In May, What Now New Orleans reported that the home-based Empanada Guy in Lafayette would be moving into a Youngsville storefront, but unfortunately, the arrangement didn’t work out and the empanada vendor returned to being a home-based operation.

Now, it appears the failed Youngsville move was a blessing in disguise as the Empanada Guy is preparing to open a full café at 1500 General Mouton Ave. in Lafayette. Owners Luciano Escudero and Laura Trahan are currently renovating the interior and the exterior riverfront space, which includes a boat dock. According to reports, the new location should be open by the end of October.

Empanada Guy is unique for its blend of Cajun and Argentinian influences. While there are traditional Argentine-style empanadas available, Empanada Guy also offers some empanadas that infuse the flavors of Acadiana, such as one made with boudin and pepperjack cheese.
