Some kids seem like they are just born with an entrepreneurial spirit, and that’s the case with Bailey and Harper Galloway, who are set to open a gourmet popcorn shop despite being only 13 and 8 years old respectively. What started as a creative night of popcorn making in December 2020 is culminating in a brick-and-mortar location for Posh Pop, a popcorn and dessert shop the sisters are opening with their mother Ebony McCallister. According to a permit filing with the City of Baton Rouge, the new shop will be located at 3617 Perkins Rd. An opening date has not been announced, and What Now New Orleans has reached out for more information.
The sisters and their mother developed a kernel of an idea for Posh Pop when they made a batch of popcorn using cookie and pretzel pieces. Realizing they were onto something, they started selling popcorn online in early 2021 and later that year they opened a stand at the Zachary Farmers & Artisans Market. In 2022, the company was able to land a tenant slot at the LSU AgCenter Food Innovation Institute (Foodii), which allowed it to scale production. Popular popcorn flavors include Cheesy Cheddar Bomb and Slumber Party, which is made with marshmallows, cookie bits, and a chocolate drizzle.
