If you haven’t heard, the former Harrah’s at the foot of Canal Street is in the midst of transitioning into Caesars New Orleans. The culinary crown jewel of the rejiggered casino will be Nobu, one of the newest outposts for the iconic American sushi brand. The restaurant is currently taking reservations with an opening date set for August 15.

You probably have heard the name Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa before. The eponymous restaurant he opened in Beverly Hills in 1987 would go on to become one of the most influential restaurants of the last three decades. Just about every sushi spot in the world now serves some form of omakase — or a chef’s choice tasting menu. But that wasn’t the case before Nobu made the traditional Japanese service ubiquitous. Nobu has also popularized signature dishes like miso cod and yellowtail with jalapeno. In keeping with the Nobu brand, the prices at the new restaurant will be a cut above those you find at the typical sushi joint, with presumably well-heeled guests plunking down $7 to $16 for individual pieces of sashimi.

There are currently more than 50 restaurants around the world emblazoned with the Nobu name, and several more are in development. Many of the newer Nobu restaurants come with an attached hotel, and that’s the case with the upcoming New Orleans location.
